My beaded jewelry evolved out of a shoulder injury that prevented me from painting for a time. Needing to find another creative outlet while rehabbing, I began making necklaces.
It was natural to experiment with a varied palette of textures and colors. Semi-precious stones of diverse shapes and sizes found their way into the same pieces with crystal, czech glass, and metals. Clasps, earring backs, chains and spacers are also varied and sometimes combined. Silver, gold vermeil and/or copper is used. No two pieces are alike, although a stylistic pattern seems to have emerged.
When I began painting again I found that my jewelry excursions had influenced my most recent artwork, the Succulents Paintings. Tiny colored beads as well as gold mica chips interact with painted areas adding a playful element, a reminder that the art has to keep expressing itself in whatever medium is at hand.
